Spider Veins
Spider Veins are red, blue, or purple “spider web like” veins that show through the top layer of the skin, usually on the face or the legs. Spider veins are typically painless, however, the addition of a dull or aching sensation in the legs may indicate a more severe venous insufficiency.
Varicose Veins
Varicose Veins are blue or purple twisted, rope-like veins that look like cords pushing up from below the skin, usually on the legs. Varicose veins often cause achy, heavy, throbbing, warm, or itchy sensations in the legs, swelling in the feet and ankles, and leg cramps.
Treatment Options
Coryell Health, under the direction of Dr. John Bawduniak, offers patients the following vein and vascular care treatments.
Sclerotherapy – Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein that irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together, and the blood to clot.
Endovenous laser ablation – The CoolTouch laser treatment for eliminating varicose veins and other vein disorders is minimally invasive. It uses laser energy to deliver treatment directly to veins, and causes little, if any, pain, incision scares, or bruising. Symptoms will begin to improve immediately following the CoolTouch procedure.
