What Is Cardiology?
Cardiology is the study and treatment of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. While heart disease continues to be one of America’s leading causes of death, an estimated 80% of premature heart attacks and strokes are preventable with help from cardiologists. Cardiology specializes in managing heart disease risk factors, diagnosing heart and circulatory system problems, and performing procedures that help mitigate the risk of heart disease.
Services
At Coryell Health, cardiologists work with our diagnostic imaging and respiratory care departments to provide:
- Echocardiography with or without contrast (ultrasound of the heart)
- Echocardiography with chemical or treadmill stress
- Myocardial imaging with chemical or treadmill stress
- Plain treadmill stress test
- Pacemaker and ICD implantation
- Pacemaker monitoring
- 24-hour heart monitoring for up to 30 days
- CT coronary angiogram
- Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) screening and management
Cardiologists may visit patients in their office or at the hospital, depending on patients’ needs.
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory:
Coryell Health’s cath lab is a minimally invasive surgical suite where doctors use advanced X-ray imaging technology to treat the heart and vascular system without in-depth surgery. Our experienced staff specializes in outpatient cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures and is dedicated to providing quality care close to home. Calcium Heart CT Scan
A CAC (coronary artery calcium) test is a CT scan that takes detailed images of your heart and shows the amount of calcium deposits in your coronary arteries. Higher amounts of calcium are associated with a potentially higher risk of heart disease. Ask your doctor if checking your calcium score would benefit your health.
