About Diedra Wuenschel, DO
Diedra Wuenschel, DO, board certified family medicine physician, joined Coryell Health in 2011.
Dr. Wuenschel serves many roles, including Medical Director for Coryell Health Medical Clinic-Gatesville and Mills County locations, RehabLiving at The Meadows Medical Director, elected Chief of Medical Staff, and Coryell County Medical Authority.
What is the role of the local health authority?
Local health departments work with healthcare and community partners to prevent and target the cause of disease outbreaks and then determine the appropriate response. Prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies.
Dr. Wuenschel was drawn to rural medicine and being a resource so families didn’t have to travel far for medical care. “When you treat patients in small communities you get to know them and their families, often caring for multiple generations,” said Dr. Wuenschel. “You can make a difference to not only individual patients but to the community as a whole. There is a continuity of care and a kind of gratification that’s very hard to find in any other kind of practice.”
When she is not treating patients in Gatesville and Mills County, Dr. Wuenschel enjoys singing, helping at the family-owned restaurant, and spending time with her husband and children on their farm.
